NRS customers should only use this Article for POS installation.
Getting your NRS POS system fully connected to LottoShield is a key part of automating your lottery and scratcher reconciliation. Follow the steps below to complete your setup and ensure your lottery sales are tracked properly.
Step 1: Complete the NRS Authorization Form
After signing up for LottoShield, log in to your LottoShield Dashboard and locate the link to the NRS Authorization Form.
Why this is important:
NRS requires this completed form before they can begin setting up the POS connection. This form gives NRS permission to allow LottoShield access to your lottery-related sales data.
Action:
Click the link, complete the form in full, and submit it as soon as possible to avoid any setup delays.
Step 2: Set Up Lotto and Lottery Departments in NRS
Once the authorization form is submitted, you need to ensure your NRS system includes the proper departments for lottery products.
How to Check or Add Departments:
-
Log in to your NRS Merchant Portal
-
Click Pricebook in the menu
-
Select Departments
-
Look for the following departments:
-
Lotto – for online draw games (e.g., Pick 3, Powerball)
-
Lottery – for physical scratcher tickets
-
-
If either department is missing, click Add Department
- Name the new department(s) whatever you want as long as they known which one is for scratchers and which ones is for online lotto
Configure POS Button Visibility:
When creating or editing a department, you'll see an option to “Show this department on the POS.” Configure it as follows:
-
Lotto (Online Games): Set to YES – this allows the button to appear on the POS so cashiers can select online lotto games.
-
Lottery (Scratchers): Set to NO – scratcher sales should be processed only by scanning the UPC, not by selecting a department manually.
If departments already exist, go to Pricebook > Departments > [Department Name] > Edit Configuration to update the POS visibility setting.
Action:
After setting up or updating departments, inform your LottoShield rep which department you will use for scratcher tickets.
Step 3: Configure POS Keys and Prepare for Scanning
Once your departments are set up:
-
Use the Lotto department key or One-Click Items to sell online games like Powerball and Mega Millions.
-
Do not create or use a department key for scratchers.
For scratchers, the only approved method of sale is by scanning the UPC barcode using your NRS POS scanner. This ensures LottoShield can pull accurate, item-level sales data for reconciliation.
Step 4: Wait for Game Load Confirmation Before Scanning Scratchers
After you’ve set up your departments and told LottoShield which one is assigned to scratchers, LottoShield will submit that information to NRS to load all current scratcher games into your system.
⚠️ You cannot begin scanning scratchers until NRS completes this process.
What to Expect:
-
NRS adds the scratcher games to your POS system under the correct department
-
Once NRS confirms the upload is complete, a LottoShield Customer Support rep will contact you
-
Your rep will confirm that scratcher games are loaded and that you can now begin scanning scratcher tickets at the register
Once Confirmed:
-
Start scanning the UPC barcode on every scratcher ticket during the sale
-
Avoid using any manual entry or department keys for scratchers
Reminder: Scanning is required for LottoShield to track sales at the individual game level and reconcile your inventory accurately.
